CMS Development FAQs

How a content management system lets you update your own website, which CMS to choose, and what custom CMS development involves.

CMS Development questions and answers

Which CMS is best for a business website?

WordPress is the best choice for most content-driven business websites thanks to its easy editor and large ecosystem. A custom CMS is better when you need specific workflows, tighter security, very high speed or features that would require many plugins in WordPress.

We recommend a platform after understanding how your team will use the website.

What is a custom CMS?

A custom CMS is a content management system built specifically for your website or business, with only the fields, sections and permissions you need. It is lighter, faster and often more secure than a general-purpose CMS, and is easier for non-technical staff because there is nothing unnecessary in the admin panel.

Is WordPress free?

The WordPress software itself is free and open source. You still pay for a domain, hosting, design and development, and optionally for premium themes or plugins. Ongoing maintenance is also important because WordPress needs regular updates to stay secure.

Is WordPress secure?

WordPress core is secure when kept updated. Most hacks happen through outdated plugins, weak passwords or poor hosting. We reduce risk by using well-maintained plugins only, limiting admin access, adding security hardening and keeping everything updated under a maintenance plan.

Can I edit my website without coding knowledge?

Yes. With a CMS you can update text, images, pages, blogs, team members, galleries and products through a simple admin panel that works like editing a document. We provide training and a short guide after launch.

What can I manage from the admin panel?

Typically pages, menus, blog posts, images, banners, services, products, testimonials, FAQs, enquiries, SEO titles and descriptions, and user accounts. In a custom CMS we include exactly the sections your business needs.

Can different staff members have different access levels?

Yes. Both WordPress and our custom CMS support user roles, for example an administrator with full access, editors who publish content, and contributors who can only draft. This protects your website from accidental changes.

Can you migrate my website to a new CMS?

Yes. We migrate content, images, users and SEO settings from older systems or other CMS platforms, and set up 301 redirects for any changed URLs so your existing Google rankings and backlinks are preserved.

Will a CMS slow down my website?

A poorly configured CMS with many plugins can be slow, but a well-built one is fast. We use lightweight themes or custom code, caching, image optimisation and good hosting to keep CMS websites at a PageSpeed score of 90+.

What is a headless CMS?

A headless CMS stores and manages content but does not control how it is displayed. The content is delivered through an API to any front end: a website, a mobile app or a digital screen. It suits businesses that publish the same content to multiple platforms.

How much does CMS development cost?

A WordPress business website typically starts around ₹15,000 to ₹20,000. A custom CMS-based website or portal usually starts from ₹50,000, depending on modules and workflows. We provide a fixed quote after understanding your requirements.

Can a CMS handle a blog and news section?

Yes. Blogging is one of the core strengths of a CMS. We set up categories, tags, author profiles, featured images, scheduled publishing, social sharing and SEO fields for each article.

Can you add SEO controls to the CMS?

Yes. Our CMS builds include editable page titles, meta descriptions, URL slugs, image alt text, canonical tags, XML sitemaps and structured data, so your team can optimise every page without developer help.

Do you build CMS websites in multiple languages?

Yes. We can configure WordPress or a custom CMS with multiple languages, translation workflows and language-specific URLs, so search engines show the right language version to each visitor.

How often does a CMS need updates?

WordPress core, themes and plugins release updates frequently, often monthly. Security updates should be applied promptly after testing. A custom CMS needs fewer updates, mainly framework and server security patches.

Can I add new pages and sections later?

Yes. With a CMS you can add new pages any time using existing layouts. If you need a completely new type of section or feature, we can develop it as an enhancement.

What is the difference between CMS web development and custom CMS development?

CMS web development usually means building your website on an existing platform such as WordPress, Joomla or Drupal. Custom CMS development means creating a content management system from scratch for your specific needs. See CMS web development and custom CMS development for details.

Can a CMS website include eCommerce?

Yes. WordPress with WooCommerce is a popular way to add an online store to a content website, and a custom CMS can include product catalogues, enquiries or full checkout depending on your needs.

Will I be locked into Kdrsoft for future changes?

No. You receive full admin access and, for custom CMS projects, the source code and documentation. Any qualified developer can work on your website in future, although we are always happy to continue supporting you.

Do you provide CMS training?

Yes. After launch we run a training session (online or at our office) covering everyday tasks such as editing pages, publishing posts and managing enquiries, and we share a simple step-by-step guide.

How do backups work for CMS websites?

We configure automatic daily or weekly backups of files and database, stored separately from your website. If something goes wrong, the website can be restored quickly to a recent working version.

Can you integrate forms and CRM with my CMS?

Yes. Enquiry forms can save leads in the admin panel, email your team, send WhatsApp notifications and push data to CRMs such as Zoho, HubSpot or a custom lead manager.

Is a custom CMS harder to maintain than WordPress?

Not necessarily. A custom CMS has fewer moving parts and no third-party plugins to update, which can make maintenance simpler and more predictable. The trade-off is that new features require developer work rather than installing a plugin.

Can you fix or speed up my existing WordPress website?

Yes. We audit slow or broken WordPress sites, remove unnecessary plugins, fix errors, optimise images and database, add caching and improve hosting configuration. See our web page speed optimization service.
